Depending on what you intend to convey, the translated text must correspond as accurately as possible to the original version. This is, of course, the case for all official or legally relevant documents. Sometimes, for marketing and advertising purposes for example, it is more important to focus on the substance of the message than on a word-for-word rendition. We master these subtleties and adapt to the particular features of your business, your needs and your target audience. We call on experts in your field of activity, who will take care of specialised translations and ensure that translations are faithful to the source text… or to the core ideas it communicates.

In all cases, our highly specialised translators translate into their mother tongue. All our translations are reviewed and revised by a second expert translator, also a native speaker of the target language, who checks the completeness of the translation, grammar, spelling and syntax.

We use CAT (computer-assisted translation) tools to ensure consistency in terminology and linguistic style in the texts we deliver to you.

Commitment to confidentiality

In all cases, our translators are bound by a strict duty of confidentiality, confirmed by their signature of a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA), guaranteeing the secrecy of information to which they have access for their work. This forms the cornerstone of our commitment since we frequently receive confidential or even secret data before it is disclosed to its final recipients.

Official translations

Official translations – legalised, certified, authenticated, sworn, notarised, accredited or sworn – are documents intended for recognition by courts or official bodies, whether in a professional or private context.

Translations of some documents may need to be legally authenticated in order to be officially recognised, e.g. if they are:

intended for an official body (inheritance, marriage, divorce, naturalisation, wills, etc.);

of an economic nature (commercial contract, tax return, articles of association, letter of credit, etc.);

of a legal nature (contracts, deeds of sale, proceedings, etc.);

for personal use (identity documents, educational or training certificate, application, declaration, proof of payment, moving house, etc.).

These are then accompanied by a certificate in seven languages indicating that the translation has been done by a specialist, signed by Trans-Adapt’s Director.

Official sworn translations – Notarised translations – Certified translations

In order to be recognised by courts or official State bodies (State Chancelleries, embassies, municipalities, cantons, Federal authorities, etc.), translations must be ‘sworn’, i.e. they must be faithful to and in conformity with the original text. This can also apply to documents for professional or private use, such as agreements or contracts.

We are able to provide you with sworn translations, carried out by accredited translators. If necessary, we will arrange for them to be legalised by authorised bodies, such as a notary and the State Chancellery. Apostilled by the State Chancellery for countries that are signatories to the Hague Convention (for other countries, the State Chancellery will affix a specific seal depending on the country of destination), your translations will be accepted in the country for which they are intended, with no further need for consular or diplomatic legalisation. If authentication by an embassy is still required, we will take care of this for you as well.

Our professional, specialised translators translate your documents and official documents into 31 languages and, depending on the country of destination and their use, legalisation is carried out as follows:

If the sworn translation is destined for Switzerland, legalisation of the translation, undertaken by us and sometimes authenticated by a notary, is sufficient in most cases.

Exceptions are translations for the official bodies of the Cantons of Geneva and Neuchâtel, as these cantons have their own sworn translators. Trans-Adapt works with some of them.

If the sworn translation is intended for foreign authorities or foreign business partners, the notary’s signature must be authenticated by the State Chancellery’s official seal, adapted to the country of destination.

In the case of countries that are signatories to the Hague (see list here), the State Chancellery will only affix an apostille.

In some cases, such as for documents destined for China, the translation will require additional legalisation before it is also legalised by the Chinese embassy.

In all cases, we will take care of all the necessary steps and formalities for these authentications quickly and discreetly, whether they are required by you or by the recipient of the translation.

For all sworn translations, please follow the procedure described below: this will help us to provide you with your translations in the shortest possible time and under the best possible conditions.
